Spectacular action in Philly

The City of Brotherly Love has seen more than its fair share of conflict over the years, and Multiverse United 2 August 20 was no different, with heated matches up and down the card.

Most heated was a 12 man contest billed as ‘BULLET CLUB versus the World’, Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa and El Phantasmo joined by PCO, Josh Alexander and the DKC to face BC’s David Finlay, Clark Connors, Alex Coughlin, Chris Bey, Ace Austin and KENTA. With the two set for NEVER Openweight Championship action in Ryogoku October 9, the two started opposite one another with a furious pace, but an ill advised plancha on the BULLET CLUB side of the ring saw Tonga mobbed. That led to the first of many pitched brawls between the two sides on the floor, only briefly punctuated at any one time with wrestling as the DKC was struggling in the wrong corner.

After a much needed tag out for the DKC, Josh Alexander hit the ring to land a barrage of suplexes, but had his mometum halted by the teamwork of Bey and Austin. When Phantasmo finally got inside, he was unstoppable as he flowed from offense to offense, bringing Loa in to continue the assault. All of a sudden, David Finlay was left alone center ring to deal with all six of his opponents, almost getting pinned by the DKC, but as the match descended once more into chaos, Finlay caught DKC with kneed buried in the gut off the top and landed a powerbomb for the victory.

TJP and Francesco Akira, Catch 2/2 took on TMDK’s Robbie Eagles and Kosei Fujita on the night. Fujita would be on the back foot early thanks to the cohesive teamwork for Catch 2/2, but a blind tag from Eagles saw the TMDK side take over on Akira. Catch 2/2 responded, Akira going over the top to the floor before some signature double teams saw the former tag champions in charge.

After Fujita withstood a pair of Facewashes, Eagles got back inside to turn the tide to TMDK’s favour. a springboard dropkick to the knee of Akira set up the Ron Miller Special; a breakup from TJP and the heart of the Itaian though would see a poison rana and the match continue with a pair of hot tags. The match breaking down, Fujita kicked out of a TJP Mamba Splash, and the Leaning Tower was defused by Fujita, but the Alley Oop would set up for the 2×2 and the three count.

DOUKI and Sami Callihan would collide one on one in the 2300. At Callihan’s behest, the match became a South Philly Streetfight, and DOUKI quickly took advantage of the rules, diving to the outside and grabbing a chair, only for a Death Valley Bomb on the floor to connect for Sami. Callihan brought a stack of chairs to the ring, and sent DOUKI through a chair with an exploder for two. Japones Del Mal would rally, and sent Callihan into a chair in the corner before grabbing a kendo stick; the Death Machine didn’t drop to a pair of cane shots, but a drop toe hold on a chair slowed the heavyweight.

DOUKI stacked chairs on top of Sami and buried a double stomp, getting a very near
