Former AEW star Sonny Kiss recently opened up about the heartbreak of not having her contract renewed with the company. In an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Kiss revealed that the news came as a shock to her and that she had always worked tirelessly to prevent this from happening.
Kiss expressed her disappointment in not being seen on television and how it affected her. She stated, “Definitely a question that a lot of people asked, like, ‘Where is Sonny? Where is Sonny?’ I understand. It hurt to go places and they was always the question they was asked. Like I would be in a supermarket or at training, whatever, and it’s just like, ‘We don’t see you.’ But I’m feeling, it’s like a heartbreak. It’s been rough because this was everything I’ve always wanted to do, it’s a dream. I’ve worked so very hard, I worked tirelessly for this not to happen.”
She also mentioned her dedication to training and how she would beg to go to television tapings just to be able to train. Kiss said, “I would beg sometimes to go to TV. Can I just go to train with Dustin [Rhodes], please? Just something. Because I wanted to work. I never was resting on my laurels, I never was just okay with not doing anything, I never was okay with that.”
When she received the call that her contract would not be renewed, Kiss was shocked and it took a while for the news to settle in. She said, “I got the call the last week of August. Honestly, it took a long time for it to settle in. It took a long time because I just was in shock. I wasn’t expecting it.”
After her departure from AEW, Kiss took to social media to express her gratitude for the opportunity to live her dream for four years. She wrote, “AEW let me live my dream for 4 years. I have so much love for everyone I worked with. Thank you for everything.”
It’s clear that Sonny Kiss had a strong passion for wrestling and gave it her all during her time with AEW. Her dedication to training and constant desire to be seen on television shows her commitment to the industry. Although her contract was not renewed, Kiss remains grateful for the opportunity she had with AEW.
