IWGP World Heavyweight Champion SANADA emerged victorious in a non-title match against Jake Something at IMPACT Wrestling’s Emergence pay-per-view event in Toronto on August 27. Despite not having the physical belt with him, as it was currently in the illegal possession of EVIL, SANADA showcased his skills against the recent IMPACT returnee and NJPW STRONG alum.

The match began with Something overpowering SANADA and sending him to the outside. However, the crafty champion took advantage of an overeager Something and trapped him in the ropes with a Paradise Lock. SANADA continued to dominate, but Something fought back with his agility and power, delivering a body attack and a hard right forearm.

In response, SANADA executed a side suplex and unleashed a series of dropkicks before diving out of the ring with a plancha. Something attempted a powerbomb and a suplex out of Skull End, but SANADA countered with the Magic Screw and a TKO for a near fall. Something displayed resilience by kicking out of a Moonsault, only to spike SANADA on his head during a second attempt.

As both competitors reset, SANADA gained the advantage in the standup and attempted Deadfall. Something managed to block the move, but his counter was met with a brutal sit-out powerbomb from SANADA for a close near fall. Something retaliated with a strike of his own, but SANADA countered his Into the Void attempt with a Shining Wizard.

Something recovered and once again targeted Into the Void, but SANADA countered with Deadfall for the three-count. The match concluded with a handshake, signifying mutual respect between the two competitors. With this victory, SANADA now sets his sights on Destruction and reclaiming his world title from EVIL.
