Kingston Retains NJPW Championship in First Defense Against Wheeler Yuta

In a hard-fought battle on the August 31st edition of AEW Dynamite, Eddie Kingston successfully defended his NJPW Championship against Wheeler Yuta of the Blackpool Combat Club.

Just days after the brutal and bloody Stadium Stampede match at All In in Wembley, Kingston entered the ring heavily bandaged. Despite landing an early shot on Yuta, Kingston immediately felt the effects as Yuta targeted the champion’s taped up right elbow. Yuta relentlessly attacked the injured arm, even ripping off the tape to inflict more damage. He then drove Kingston into the ringpost on the outside, further weakening the champion.

Throughout the match, Kingston struggled against the relentless challenger. Yuta bit at the head of the champion in the corner, but instead of weakening Kingston, it only fueled his anger. Kingston retaliated with a powerful right hand that sent Yuta spilling to the floor, where he was met with a tope suicida. Kingston followed up with Kobo chops and an exploder suplex, but Yuta managed to kick out at two.

Yuta then attempted a German suplex, but Kingston denied him and delivered a nearfall. Kingston capitalized on Yuta’s unforced error when Yuta got in his face, eating two vicious chops. However, Yuta caught Kingston’s arm on the third chop and landed hard elbows. Once again, this only served to anger the champion. Kingston responded with a half Nelson suplex and two consecutive Uraken backfists, securing the three-count for the victory.

Eddie Kingston’s first defense of the NJPW Championship showcased his resilience and determination. Despite the injuries sustained at All In in Wembley, Kingston proved that he is a formidable champion. His ability to overcome Yuta’s relentless assault on his injured arm demonstrates his unwavering fighting spirit.
