“Stone Cold” Steve Austin was previously reported to have received a “big money” offer to work a match at WWE WrestleMania 39, although reports on who his opponent would be have differed. While there were some rumors that Austin was supposed to wrestle Roman Reigns, Dave Meltzer is reporting that the opponent was actually Brock Lesnar.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that plans for Austin vs. Lesnar have been discarded as WWE had been hoping to book that match and Roman Reigns vs. The Rock as the headliners for the two nights of WrestleMania 39. Plans for Roman Reigns vs. The Rock have also fallen through.
WWE actually wanted to book Austin in a match at SummerSlam last year. Austin vs. Lesnar would be a first-time dream match and ‘The Beast’ doesn’t have many opponents left as big as Austin. For what it’s worth, a match with GUNTHER was “definitely” not the plan for Lesnar at WrestleMania.
