Ring of Honor (ROH) continued its impressive run with another thrilling night of action on August 31, 2023. The split shows format was once again utilized, resulting in a shorter but action-packed event. The ongoing story between Athena and Billie Starkz has captivated fans, and their match this week promised to be just as entertaining. Let’s dive into the highlights of the evening.
The night kicked off with a high-stakes match for the New Japan Pro Wrestling TV Title, as Zack Sabre Jr. defended his championship against Metalik. The match started with a display of technical prowess, with Sabre showcasing his skills on the mat. Metalik, however, fought back with impressive high-flying maneuvers. In the end, Sabre retained his title by forcing Metalik to submit to a double arm crank.
Next up, Cole Karter, accompanied by Maria Kanellis-Bennett, took on Griff Garrison. Though Karter seemed displeased with his opponent, he showcased his dominance in the ring, ultimately defeating Garrison with his devastating finisher, the Eye of the Beholder.
Josh Woods faced off against John Walters in a Pure division match. Woods, with the guidance of his manager Mark Sterling, demonstrated his technical prowess and secured victory with the Gorilla Lock submission hold.
In a six-man tag team match, the Workhorsemen and Lee Moriarty took on Invictus Khash, Lord Crewe, and Beef. The Workhorsemen and Moriarty proved to be the superior team, with Moriarty delivering a moonsault to Beef for the pinfall victory.
Emi Sakura battled Alice Crowley in a hard-hitting encounter. Sakura showcased her experience and resilience, countering Crowley’s offense and finishing her off with a delayed butterfly backbreaker.
Marina Shafir faced off against Angelica Risk in a match that showcased both competitors’ grappling skills. Shafir dominated the match, ultimately securing victory with a triangle choke submission.
The Spanish Announce Project, consisting of Serpentico and Angelico, took on the Outrunners in a thrilling tag team match. Serpentico and Angelico employed their high-flying abilities to overcome the Outrunners, with Angelico trapping Magnum in an arm trap half crab for the submission victory.
The main event of the evening featured the Mogul Embassy defending their Six Man Tag Team Titles against Action Andretti, Lee Johnson, and Darius Martin. The Mogul Embassy, accompanied by Prince Nana, launched a brutal assault on the challengers from the start. Despite a valiant effort from Andretti, Martin, and Johnson, the Mogul Embassy retained their titles when Cage executed a sitout powerbomb on Johnson for the victory.
