At this past weekend’s WWE SummerSlam event, Cody Rhodes emerged victorious in the rubber match of his feud against Brock Lesnar. The match itself was intense and hard-fought, but it was the post-match moment that truly captured the attention of the crowd.
After the match, Rhodes and Lesnar had a powerful staredown in the center of the ring. Lesnar then approached Rhodes and the two touched foreheads, symbolizing a mutual respect between the competitors. In a surprising turn of events, Lesnar offered his hand to Rhodes, who shook it to a thunderous ovation from the audience. Lesnar then raised Rhodes’ arm in victory, presenting him to each side of the crowd.
Following the event, Rhodes attended the post-SummerSlam press conference and was asked about the emotional post-match moment with Lesnar. Rhodes revealed that he was asked a similar question by WWE documentary cameras after the match, but he admitted that he hasn’t fully comprehended the significance of the moment just yet.
Rhodes described his current run as a professional wrestler as surprising, and he expressed his deep admiration for the moment with Lesnar. Despite the physicality and intensity of their recent encounters, Rhodes felt a bond between himself and Lesnar during the post-match segment. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete at Lesnar’s level, even though he has no desire to face him in the ring again.
Rhodes went on to praise Lesnar as a “unicorn” in the world of professional wrestling, emphasizing that his impact will only be fully appreciated once he is gone. Rhodes also drew parallels between Lesnar’s perception of him and the way his father, WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes, looked at another wrestling legend, Harley Race. Rhodes speculated that he may have found his own “Harley” in Lesnar.
Triple H, WWE Chief Content Officer, later confirmed that the post-match moment between Lesnar and Rhodes was not planned, adding to the authenticity and emotional impact of the encounter.
