Will Ospreay made a bold statement following his loss to Naito by tossing away the IWGP United States Championship and unveiling a brand new title, the IWGP United Kingdom Championship. In an interview with the NJPW press, Ospreay explained his decision and asserted his claim as the best in the world.

Ospreay declared, “Tomorrow, no matter if I’m in the final or not, I resume the responsibility of being the best in the world because I hold this IWGP United States Championship. This championship makes me the best in the world, but it’s meaningless in someone else’s hands. It never mattered in Kenny’s hands, or Jay’s, or Juice, or Moxley or Lance, Tanahashi or KENTA. It means nothing unless it’s in mine.”

The Aerial Assassin went on to express his desire for a championship that suits his needs and represents his home country. “The best in the world is from the United Kingdom,” Ospreay proclaimed. He then presented the IWGP United Kingdom Championship to the IWGP committee, stating, “Have this, I don’t want it. I want a championship that suits my needs. I am the best in the world, and I want this championship.”

Ospreay’s confidence in his abilities was evident as he challenged anyone in the world to try and take the title from him. “This is my championship. This means I am the best in the world. So if anyone thinks they are better than me, championship on the line, you beat Will Ospreay and you take this from me, you’re the best in the world,” he declared.

The IWGP United States Championship has been a part of Ospreay’s journey in 2023. He started the year as the champion but lost it to Kenny Omega at WrestleKingdom 17. However, he reclaimed the title from Omega at the Forbidden Door 2 pay-per-view in June.

Ospreay’s decision to introduce the IWGP United Kingdom Championship adds an exciting twist to his career and raises questions about potential future matchups. Wrestling fans around the world will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on Ospreay’s reign as he aims to solidify his claim as the best in the world.
