Tony Schiavone, the renowned wrestling commentator and host of the What Happened When podcast, recently expressed his desire to see an older version of Sting’s character make an appearance at AEW Revolution 2024. Schiavone shared his thoughts and memories of the legendary wrestler during a recent episode of his podcast.
Reflecting on his relationship with Sting, Schiavone recounted a story from many years ago when he first interviewed the multi-time world champion. He recalled the surreal experience of sticking a microphone in Sting’s face at TBS Studios and the excitement he felt about doing it. Schiavone even joked with Sting about the incident during a conversation they had in Oakland. However, Sting claimed not to remember the encounter, prompting Schiavone to offer to pull up the video footage as proof.
Both Sting and Ric Flair have been phenomenal performers, and Schiavone expressed his honor at being associated with them in some way. As Sting prepares for his final match at AEW Revolution 2024, Schiavone pitched the idea of him appearing as the Surfer Sting character rather than the Crow Sting persona that he has portrayed in AEW since his debut in 2020.
Schiavone believes that seeing Surfer Sting, with his blonde hair spiked up, would be a treat for fans and a fitting way for Sting to bid farewell to the wrestling world. He hopes to convince Sting to consider this idea for his last match.
It’s worth noting that Sting won’t be alone in his final AEW run, as the legendary Ric Flair will also be joining him. Flair recently announced that he had signed a multi-year contract with AEW, adding even more star power to the promotion.
