The ripple effect. There have been all kinds of changes taking place over the last few months in WWE and those changes show no signs of slowing down. One of the biggest changes has involved the company’s main event scene, as the World Title situation has been completely shaken up. As it turns out, the plans for that shakeup were originally set to start quite a bit earlier.

Last week on Monday Night Raw, Triple H introduced the new World Heavyweight Championship, with the first champion being crowned at Night Of Champions on May 27. This will result in two World Champions in WWE, with Roman Reigns currently holding the Undisputed WWE Universal Title.
According to Fightful Select, WWE had plans to split the titles as far back as Day One in January 2022, but Reigns was forced out of his WWE Title shot due to testing positive for the Coronavirus. Brock Lesnar was added to the match and won the title, which was then unified with Reigns’ title at WrestleMania 38. Plans for splitting the titles after the unification were rumored but never brought up again, with the new title being introduced instead.

Opinion: I can see how WWE’s thinking went here, but there is still something strange about having Reigns wreck everyone for the better part of three years and everyone else getting another title. WWE could find a way to have Reigns lose one title without sacrificing his all time reign, but this is what we get instead. For now though, at least we are getting a change, even if it took this long to get here.
