Kevin Owens recently sat down for an interview with Ariel Helwani of TNT Sports, where he opened up about how close he was to leaving WWE a year and a half ago. Owens revealed that while he was open to exploring other options, ultimately, he decided to stay with WWE because of the incredible crew behind the scenes.
Owens admitted that he didn’t know how badly WWE wanted to keep him until he had a conversation with Vince McMahon. Once he realized that McMahon wanted him to stay, Owens felt that he wasn’t done with WWE yet, not just in terms of his career, but also because of the personal connections he had with the production crew.
“There’s a whole side to this place that people don’t see, that people don’t know, where we have a really incredible crew. I’m talking, not the wrestlers. Obviously, everybody I wrestle with, I have a lot of very close friends, but the crew, the production crew, the people behind the scenes, there’s really amazing people here,” Owens said.
Owens further explained that while he may not have the same kind of ongoing relationships with crew members as he does with other wrestlers, he still cares about them and values the bond they have developed over the years. He couldn’t imagine leaving these people behind and never seeing them again.
“I just see them at work, but even though I just see them at work, I know them personally, I care about them, and we have a relationship. I couldn’t imagine leaving these people behind and not never seeing them again,” Owens said.
Ultimately, Owens realized that staying with WWE was the best decision for him and his family. He expressed his happiness at still being able to work with the incredible crew every week.
“I go to the shows and the people behind the scenes make this place very special, and it’s a shame because they’ll never get their flowers. You know what I mean? But I try to give it to them as much as I can because they’re a very special group, a very special team,” Owens added.
It’s clear that Owens has a deep appreciation for the unsung heroes of the wrestling industry. While fans may only see the wrestlers in the ring, it’s the crew behind the scenes who work tirelessly to make the shows possible.
