Chris Hero, the former professional wrestler turned AEW producer, recently shared his thoughts on the crossover appeal of AEW superstar Darby Allin. Allin, who has quickly risen to prominence in AEW with two reigns as TNT Champion, has captured the attention of fans of all ages and backgrounds.

In an interview on The Ringer’s Masked Man Show, Hero discussed the impact that Allin’s unique persona and style have had on the wrestling industry. He emphasized the importance of connecting with audiences on a deeper level, beyond just the in-ring action and promos.

“When I look out into the arena and see these kids with their face painted up like him, these are five, six, seven-year-old children that are going to grow up and have lives. This is connecting with people on a deeper level,” Hero explained.

Hero also highlighted Allin’s ability to cross over into different areas of entertainment, mentioning his associations with figures like Tony Hawk and JPEGMAFIA.

“Darby’s crossover is incredible, and it’s not this phony studio-made. These are things that Darby likes and is interested in. You see him and it’s like, ‘I wonder what that dude is about.’ He did Nitro Circus. It’s not even about the pro wrestling, it’s about the butterfly effect of who else he meets in the world,” Hero said.

According to Hero, Allin’s crossover appeal goes beyond just ratings or match outcomes. It has the potential to impact the wrestling business as a whole.

“People like Darby, when they crossover to different areas of entertainment, it affects the business as a whole. Some wrestlers are bigger than that, and I think Darby is one of them,” Hero added.

Allin’s popularity and crossover appeal will be on full display at this Saturday’s Full Gear event, where he will team up with Adam Copeland and Sting to take on Christian Cage, Luchasaurus, and Nick Wayne.
