The WWE Women’s World Title match is now official for Payback. After weeks of feuding on TV, Raquel Rodriguez will challenge WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley at the upcoming pay-per-view event.

This will be Ripley’s fourth televised title defense since winning the championship from Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 39 in April. She has successfully defended her title against Zelina Vega at Backlash, Natalya at Night of Champions, and Natalya again on the July 4 episode of RAW.

Rodriguez and Ripley have a history of facing each other in multi-woman and live event matches dating back to 2017, both in WWE NXT and on the main roster. However, their upcoming match at Payback will be their third televised singles bout. The two competitors previously faced off at NXT Halloween Havoc on October 28, 2020, where Ripley emerged victorious. Rodriguez got her revenge by defeating Ripley in a Last Woman Standing match at NXT New Year’s Evil on January 6, 2021.

The highly-anticipated WWE Payback event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The updated card for the event is as follows:

WWE World Heavyweight Title Match: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Seth Rollins (c)

WWE Women’s World Title Match: Raquel Rodriguez vs. Rhea Ripley (c)

Steel Cage Match: Becky Lynch vs. Trish Stratus
