CM Punk Talks About AEW’s Collision and Competition

All Elite Wrestling’s Collision has been making waves in the world of professional wrestling, and top star CM Punk recently spoke to Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso about the show’s upcoming episode and its competition with WWE’s SummerSlam.

On August 5th, Collision will go head-to-head with the first two hours of SummerSlam. Despite this, Punk emphasized that Collision is not competing with the WWE’s “Big Four” event. He pointed out that Collision has already faced tough competition in its brief history, including going up against monster UFC cards every Saturday. Punk stated, “We are not competing with them. We are competing with what we did last Saturday. That’s always going to be what we are striving to do, and I think that’s an important message for the fans to understand.”

Punk also discussed the advantages of Collision airing on Saturday nights. He acknowledged that it may be a bad night for television, but believes it’s easier to sell tickets to a Saturday night show. He said, “I knew it was going to be an uphill battle, but we absolutely love the challenge. I think we’ve outdone ourselves so far.”

It’s no secret that Punk has a lot of say in Collision’s lineup and booking. In the interview, he highlighted the team effort behind the show’s success and mentioned several wrestlers he wants to see highlighted on Collision, including FTR, Samoa Joe, Jay White, Juice, The Gunns, Ricky Starks, House of Black, Andrade, Rush, Hobbs, Miro, Statlander, and Toni Storm. Punk emphasized the importance of bringing new talent up and building something special with the show.

While Punk may be the star of Collision, he made it clear that it’s not about him. He stated, “It’s not about me at all, it’s about us. It’s not just me on Collision. It’s not one single person. We’re trying to build something out of this show.” Punk expects excellence from himself and his fellow wrestlers, as they strive to create an unforgettable experience for the fans.
