Arn Anderson, the WWE Hall of Famer, recently discussed his time in WCW during 1993 on his show, ARN. In this episode, Anderson touched upon various topics, including Rick Rude’s return to WCW, Davey Boy Smith’s missed opportunity at becoming the WCW World Champion, and his own experience of losing to Barry Windham for the World Title at Slamboree.

Rick Rude’s WCW Return

When asked about Rick Rude’s return to WCW, Anderson expressed his admiration for Rude’s physical appearance and star power. Anderson stated, “He looked great every time you saw him, right? Oh, yeah. There was no question about that. And he had star power, so you got to say it was a big plus.” Rude’s presence in WCW undoubtedly added to the overall appeal of the promotion.

Davey Boy Smith’s Missed Opportunity

Anderson also shared his thoughts on why Davey Boy Smith never became the WCW World Champion. He believed that there were never any plans for Smith to hold the title. Although Smith had a successful career and was a fan favorite, it seems that the WCW creative team did not see him as a potential World Champion.

Losing to Barry Windham at Slamboree

Reflecting on his own experience of losing to Barry Windham for the World Title at Slamboree, Anderson revealed that he was not positioned as a top contender for the championship. He explained, “I don’t think I’d ever been pushed or used or the build to that match was anybody thought I was going to win, to be honest with you. I think everybody thought that Barry was going to retain.” Anderson acknowledged that he was not a babyface that the audience strongly supported, unlike popular wrestlers such as Barry Windham or Sting. Despite his heel role in the match, Anderson didn’t believe that the fans were upset with Windham’s victory.
