Wrestling Icon Crushes Hopes of WWE Comeback, Absolutely Not Happening

Former WWE star Mike Rotunda, better known as IRS, recently announced that he will not be returning to the company. In a virtual signing with K&S WrestleFest, Rotunda, who is 65 years old, stated that he is “burned out” after a 36-year career in wrestling and has no plans to return to WWE “in this lifetime”. He also revealed that he has already undergone a left hip replacement and requires replacements for his other hip and knee. Rotunda had previously made cameo appearances in WWE in 2020.

Rotunda had a notable career in WWE, portraying the character IRS, a tax collector who would often antagonize the audience with his strict adherence to tax laws. He was known for his tag team partnership with Ted DiBiase, forming Money Inc., and they held the WWE Tag Team Championship on two occasions. Rotunda also had success as a singles competitor, winning the WWE United States Championship and the WCW World Television Championship.

Throughout his career, Rotunda showcased his versatility by portraying various characters, including the cult leader Bray Wyatt’s father, and his ability to adapt to different storylines and gimmicks made him a valuable asset to WWE. His commitment to his characters and his dedication to his craft were evident in his performances.

Rotunda’s decision to retire from wrestling is understandable given his age and the toll that years of physicality can take on the body. It is important for wrestlers to prioritize their health and well-being, especially as they age. Rotunda’s need for multiple joint replacements serves as a reminder of the physical sacrifices that wrestlers often make for their careers.

As fans, we should respect Rotunda’s decision and appreciate the contributions he made to the wrestling industry. His work in WWE, both as IRS and in other roles, left a lasting impact on fans and fellow wrestlers alike. While it is always possible for retired wrestlers to make surprise returns, it seems that Rotunda is content with his decision to step away from the ring for good.
