Former WWE wrestler Mike Halac, known for his time as the Minotaur-inspired character “Mantaur,” has passed away at the age of 55. The news of his death was shared on Facebook by a promoter who had booked Halac for a convention in September. According to Halac’s daughter, he died peacefully in his sleep.
While Halac may not have spent a significant amount of time on wrestling’s biggest stages, he certainly left an impression during his tenure. His first run with WWE in 1995 as Mantaur saw him managed by Jim Cornette and involved in a feud between Hall of Famers Razor Ramon and Jeff Jarrett. He also participated in a Royal Rumble match and put over two WWE Hall of Famers, Bret Hart and Bam Bam Bigelow.
Following his stint with WWE, Halac joined ECW as “Bruiser Mastino” for the remainder of 1995. He made a return to WWE the following year as an unnamed bodyguard for Goldust during his program with Ultimate Warrior. Halac’s wrestling career began in Germany with Catch Wrestling Association, and he went on to work for several promotions from 1997 onwards. He retired as a full-time performer in 1999 but made a final appearance in the Clusterfuck Battle Royal at GCW Joey Janela’s Spring Break in 2019.
