Sammy Guevara and Daniel Garcia Dominate AEW Blind Eliminator Tournament, Securing Finals Spot with Swerve Strickland’s Help

AEW’s Blind Eliminator Tournament has been heating up, as the last four teams faced off in the semifinals on the July 12 episode of Dynamite. The tournament, which “randomly” paired up members of the roster, has been a thrilling ride for fans and wrestlers alike.

In the first semifinal match, Darby Allin & Orange Cassidy took on Sammy Guevara & Daniel Garcia. While Guevara and Garcia are teammates in the Jericho Appreciation Society, their partnership has been rocky as of late. This tension was evident from their entrance and continued in the ring, with Guevara not always appreciating his partner’s tactics.

Although their issues played into the ending of the match, it wasn’t the deciding factor. Mogul Embassy’s Prince Nana made a surprise appearance, encouraging Garcia to use Allin’s skateboard as a weapon against Cassidy. However, Allin managed to prevent this from happening. But just when it seemed like the match was reaching its conclusion, Swerve Strickland swooped in and delivered a devastating knee strike to Allin, seeking revenge for being eliminated from the tournament by OC and Sting’s friend the previous week.

While Guevara didn’t seem pleased with Strickland’s interference, he didn’t argue either. This sets the stage for a potential continuation of the story between Strickland and Allin when Strickland takes on Darby’s friend and protege Nick Wayne.

Meanwhile, Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) and Adam Cole continued to strengthen their bond as a team. Cole even assured MJF that he was “cool” after MJF revealed he didn’t have any friends during a Fight Forever multi-player session. This caused concern for Cole’s girlfriend, Dr. Britt Baker, and his friend Roderick Strong. However, Cole appeared fully committed to the “Better Than You BAY BAY” team.

In their semifinal match, MJF and Cole faced off against Big Bill and Brian Cage. MJF initially seemed unsure about his desire to continue in the tournament, but he found motivation when Large William disrespected their team shirt. This triggered MJF to channel his inner Hulk Hogan and slam Bill, much to the delight of Cole and the crowd in Saskatoon.

While MJF’s desired double clothesline finish didn’t go as planned, teamwork prevailed as Cage fell victim to a devastating BOOM knee, resulting in MJF and his only friend advancing to the finals.

The finals will see MJF and Cole taking on Guevara and Garcia next Wednesday in Boston. The winners of this match will earn a shot at the current tag team champions on the July 29 episode of Collision.
