LA Knight Reveals Heartbreaking Battles Faced Throughout Wrestling Journey

LA Knight, also known as Eli Drake, recently sat down for an interview with Interstate 70 Sports Media to discuss his struggles in the wrestling business and almost quitting. The WWE star opened up about the challenges he faced early on in his career and how he persevered to reach his current level of success.

Throughout the interview, LA Knight reflected on the difficulties he encountered during his 20s. He revealed, “For the first 10 years going through my 20s, I was broke as hell trying to get this whole thing done. Working serving jobs, rather odd side jobs and stuff, just to kind of get myself by.” Despite the financial hardships, Knight remained determined to pursue his dream of being a professional wrestler.

As he entered his 30s, LA Knight’s fortunes began to change. He started getting paid for his wrestling gigs, starting with his time in NXT, followed by stints in Impact and NWA. Knight acknowledged that while he was making decent money at those promotions, he still had bigger aspirations and wanted to reach a larger stage.

The opportunity to return to WWE presented itself in 2016, but LA Knight was hesitant due to the potential pay cut compared to what he was earning in Impact. He decided to continue building his name in the wrestling industry for a few more years before considering a WWE comeback. Knight also addressed concerns about his age, stating, “By that point in time, you’re looking at a 36-37-year-old guy. Some people look at that number. That’s a little scary, but you have to look at me and realize that I don’t have a big injury history. I don’t have a big surgery history. So with that in mind, even though the number says 40, in a lot of ways in this business, I’m operating more on like a 30-year-old’s body.”

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and LA Knight was 38 years old, he initially thought his wrestling career might be over. However, he decided to make one final push and see if there was any interest. To his surprise, he received an opportunity and seized it. Knight remarked, “It’s crazy that I even made that move. I didn’t think it was a possibility. I didn’t think it was gonna happen. But it did. And I’m glad it did.”

LA Knight’s resilience and determination serve as an inspiration to aspiring wrestlers who may be facing their own challenges in the industry. Despite the obstacles he encountered, Knight never gave up on his dream and ultimately achieved success in WWE.
