Kevin Owens Suffers Injury, WWE Provides Update

WWE.com

Grayson Waller spent a bunch of time targeting Kevin Owens’ hand during their match on Friday Night SmackDown this week. He still lost the match, of course, with KO winning via roll up but now WWE has taken that and turned it into this:

UPDATE: @fightowensfight has sustained an injury, fracturing his 4th and 5th metacarpal during #SmackDown last night. https://t.co/2eZSVEJ27G

— WWE (@WWE) December 2, 2023

WWE doesn’t make it a habit to announce injuries, so it sure seems clear this is simply continuing on with the story from the match. Having said that, the timing is awfully interesting. He was already announced for the United States championship number one contender tournament but he isn’t in the line-up for the first round of matches next week. That’s the same show that CM Punk will be making his return to the blue brand.

It was just days ago that Owens was doing an interview and sounding as though he isn’t thrilled about Punk being back in WWE.

An injury angle gives him a good reason to miss the show, considering an injury like the one they announced can take up to six weeks to heal. Not that it’s guaranteed he actually will miss the show or anything, just that it’s obviously an option. And speculation will surely run rampant if he’s not around next week.
