Jon Moxley Draws Astonishing Parallel Between Modern Wrestling and Iconic HBO Series ‘The Wire’

Jon Moxley, the AEW superstar, has a unique perspective on professional wrestling that sets it apart from what most people believe. During a recent interview with Jesse and Anna on B.105, Moxley discussed the upcoming episode of Dynamite and his International Championship defense against Big Bill, promising that the match would be “very ugly.”

Moxley acknowledged that professional wrestling is a family-friendly event where you can bring children and even Grandma. However, he emphasized that it is also a physically intense and violent sport. He assured fans that this main event would be far from the hokey cartoonish buffoonery that some may associate with wrestling from years ago.

In fact, Moxley went on to explain how much professional wrestling has evolved in 2023. He compared the sport to the HBO classic The Wire, stating that it is not just a hokey rasslin show anymore.

“Pro wrestling in 2023 has evolved to something much different than people even think it is now that aren’t familiar with it. If you like sports, drama, and violence, this is a very gritty wrestling show at times. A lot of times, it’s more like watching The Wire than watching what you think is a pro wrestling show. That’s what it’s going to be on Wednesday. It’s not jokes. A lot is on the line, championship gold, people’s health, people’s future and legacy. It’s a hell of a dramatic night,” said Moxley.
