John Cena made a surprise return to SmackDown last night, announcing that he will be the special guest host for tonight’s Premium Live Event. The veteran WWE Superstar, who is approaching age 47 and has been in the business for over 20 years, knows that the end of his career is coming soon.
In an interview with Cathy Kelley, Cena expressed his gratitude to the WWE Universe for allowing him to continue being a part of the family. He said, “Every single chance I get to go out there becomes more and more special. There is no denying the fact that I’m 46 and staring down 47. I’ve been here for over two decades. As I said out there in the ring, the last one is not tonight, but I know it’s soon.”
Cena acknowledged that when you’re involved in professional wrestling on a full-time basis, you constantly think about what’s next. However, for the past two or three years, he has been able to focus on the present and not miss any of the wonderful moments in the ring. He never tires of saying “Never give up” and expressing his gratitude to the fans who make his return possible.
Regarding his hosting duties for tonight’s Premium Live Event Payback, Cena admitted that it will be his first time hosting. He mentioned his mutual respect for The Miz, who is known for wearing many hats in the WWE. Cena joked about how hosts usually don’t do much except host, but he also referenced The Rock’s hosting of WrestleMania 27, which ended up costing Cena the main event against The Miz.
