According to a report by Fightful Select, there were tentative plans for their return to NXT quite a while ago.
A WWE source stated that there was a plan for Corbin and Ali’s return to NXT, despite the cynicism around the free agent tags in the previous regime. Multiple NXT talents reportedly asked to work with Ali, which he was more than happy to oblige. The appearances of Corbin and Ali in NXT are to add interest to the brand, refresh their characters, assess the talent they will be working with, and provide experience to NXT talents.
Corbin and Ali will continue to work in NXT, but this is not a permanent move as they can still appear on RAW and SmackDown when needed. Corbin will face Butch in a Money In the Bank qualifier on Friday’s SmackDown, while Ali will wrestle Santos Escobar.
