Coming into this week’s episode of television, NXT had to determine the challenger for Carmelo Hayes’ NXT Championship at the upcoming No Mercy premium live event. The match, scheduled for Sat., Sept. 30, 2023, at the Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield, California, would feature a rematch for either Ilja Dragunov or Wes Lee.
Dragunov and Lee kicked off the show with their number one contender match, putting on an entertaining display that earned them praise from the Performance Center crowd. The match saw back-and-forth action, with both competitors leaving it all in the ring. In the end, Dragunov emerged victorious with a hard-fought pinfall.
Booker T commented, “All those wars finally caught up to Lee.”
The updated No Mercy card now includes the following matches:
NXT Championship: Carmelo Hayes (c) vs. Ilja Dragunov
North American Championship: Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. Mustafa Ali
