JD McDonagh, who was drafted from NXT to the Raw brand in early May, is making waves in the world of professional wrestling. Rumors had been circulating that WWE was considering McDonagh as a new member of The Judgment Day, and these rumors were confirmed when a tease featuring McDonagh made it onto television in mid-May.
However, McDonagh seemed to disappear from the Raw show in June and July, and was relegated to Main Event. The rumor mill suggested that WWE’s plans for McDonagh with The Judgment Day were on hold. But this past weekend, McDonagh resurfaced in the SummerSlam Battle Royal presented by Slim Jim. It was last night’s episode of Raw, though, where he truly made his mark.
In a tense backstage segment between Finn Balor and Damian Priest, JD McDonagh appeared, aligning himself with Finn and suggesting that Damian’s Money in the Bank contract is the root of the group’s current problems. This unexpected twist has left fans speculating about McDonagh’s potential future with The Judgment Day.
While McDonagh is not currently a member of The Judgment Day, he did the group a favor later in the night by taking out Sami Zayn in a backstage attack. This act of loyalty has only fueled speculation that McDonagh may be positioning himself as a replacement for Damian Priest within the group.
With the events that unfolded at SummerSlam, it appears that there may not be enough room in The Judgment Day for both Finn Balor and Damian Priest. If Damian is eventually ousted from the group, it seems likely that JD McDonagh will be waiting in the wings to take his place.
