A new report from Fightful Select provides an update on the contract negotiations, stating that WWE began making overtures to Knight to re-sign around the time of SummerSlam in early August. It was clear then that WWE wanted to extend Knight’s contract for several years.
At that time, Knight’s new deal was not close to being finalized, and it was expected to be done well ahead of a possible expiration, which would have been late 2024 or early 2025. WWE has typically waited until contracts are closer to expiration before offering new deals, but it seems they wanted to secure Knight’s services for a longer period of time.
While details of the initial offers from WWE were not provided, it was noted that some of them were countered. Despite this, WWE officials have been high on Knight for a while now and recognize his rapid development of a significant following since his move to the main roster.
In a recent match at WWE Payback, Knight defeated The Miz with John Cena serving as the special guest referee. Cena even endorsed Knight in a post-match moment on the stage, further solidifying his position and potential in WWE.
