The National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) is gearing up for its historic 75th Anniversary pay-per-view event, and NWA President Billy Corgan recently spoke about one of the marquee matches on the card. In an interview on the Sports Guys Talk Wrestling program, Corgan discussed the retirement stipulation that has been added to the NWA World’s Title match between Tyrus and EC3.
Tyrus, the current NWA World’s Champion, has declared that if he loses the match against EC3, he will retire from professional wrestling. Corgan revealed that Tyrus is serious about this stipulation and believes that he has accomplished everything he set out to do in the business.
“Tyrus is pretty serious about, he’s kind of towards the end of this thing. When he’s talking about retirement, I mean, he’s serious here. He really feels if he can’t be at the top, then he’s pretty much proven anything he’s going to prove in this business,” Corgan said during the interview.
Corgan also praised EC3, stating that he has always recognized his immense potential, dating back to their time together in TNA Wrestling.
“EC3 was the guy that we had tabbed as, if this company’s ever going to go anywhere, it’s going to be on the back of [EC3],” Corgan added.
Furthermore, Corgan touched on the personal and professional history between Tyrus and EC3. The two wrestlers have known each other since their days in TNA and WWE, and their careers have been intertwined ever since.
“Their careers are meshed in many ways. You see it on a personal level, you see it on a professional level, where sometimes in the right moment, you’ll see two men push each other to a place I don’t think they knew they could go. That’s where that blurry line is, where their friendship stops at the ring ropes,” Corgan explained.
