Athena Eyeing ROH Women’s Title Defense in NJPW and STARDOM

Athena, the reigning ROH Women’s Champion, recently expressed her desire to defend her title in other promotions such as New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) and STARDOM. In an interview with Tim & Eli on Battleground, Athena, also known as “The Fallen Goddess,” discussed her aspirations to take the Ring of Honor Championship to Japan and compete against the talented women in NJPW and STARDOM.

Reflecting on her previous experiences, Athena mentioned her match with Miyu Yamashita on the indie scene and expressed her eagerness to repeat such cross-promotional opportunities. However, she acknowledged that due to scheduling conflicts, obtaining approval from Tony Khan, the head of AEW, would be necessary for her to defend her title outside of Ring of Honor.

“I would love to go to Japan. I would love to take the Ring of Honor Championship to Japan and defend it there, particularly for New Japan or STARDOM,” Athena said. “When I was first on the Indies, New Japan did not have women’s wrestling, so it’s even more of a ‘I need it.'”

Athena’s passion for wrestling in Japan stems from her admiration for the hard-hitting style and the dedication of Japanese female wrestlers. She expressed her desire to be immersed in the Japanese wrestling scene, where women train relentlessly and deliver impactful performances.

Aside from Japan, Athena also expressed her interest in wrestling in the UK, considering the significant changes in the UK wrestling scene since her time on the independent circuit. She also mentioned her desire to return to Australia, highlighting her ambition to take the Ring of Honor Championship on a world tour.

While Athena dreams of competing internationally, she is currently focused on her upcoming title defense against Billie Starkz at the ROH Final Battle 2023 pay-per-view. The main event matchup promises to be a thrilling encounter between two talented and determined athletes.
