Angelina Love Falls Short in NWA Women’s Television Championship Match
Angelina Love, a six-time TNA Knockouts champion, had her sights set on capturing the NWA Women’s Television Championship during the latest episode of NWA Powerrr. However, her quest for gold in the NWA fell short as she was unable to defeat the reigning champion, Kenzie Paige.
Kenzie Paige, who has held the TV title since becoming the inaugural winner at NWA 312 on April 7, utilized a savvy strategy to waste time during the match. She talked trash for the entire first minute, preventing Love from gaining any significant offense. Love managed to score a quick roll-up and shove Paige down to the mat, but Paige quickly rolled out of the ring to regroup and work the clock.
After a brief exchange of blows on the outside, both competitors returned to the ring with 2 minutes and 30 seconds remaining. Love unleashed a jawbreaker, but Paige fired back with a superkick. Love was dazed and rolled out of the ring to clear her head, narrowly beating the referee’s ten-count to continue the match with only 1 minute remaining.
In a last-ditch effort, Love hit Paige with her signature move, the Botox Injection pump kick. The champion was down flat on her back, but Love was too weary to capitalize and go for the cover. Paige grabbed onto the ropes to prevent Love from launching another attack and rolled outside the ring as time ran out. Love gave chase and tried to push Paige back into the ring, but Paige managed to escape, leading to a draw.
This result extends Love’s quest for a championship in the NWA, while Paige’s title defense counts towards the Lucky 7 rule. After successfully defending the TV title seven times, the champion becomes eligible to cash in for a world title shot. This match against Love marks Paige’s seventh successful defense, putting her in a favorable position to potentially challenge for the NWA Women’s World Championship.
The timing of Paige’s potential world title opportunity couldn’t be better, as NWA 75 is just around the corner on August 26 and 27. The main event of Night 1 will feature Kamille defending the NWA Women’s World Championship against Natalia Markova, while the champion will face the Mildred Burke Invitational Gauntlet winner on Night 2. If Paige can capitalize on her Lucky 7 status and call her shot after the champion has wrestled two tough matches in two nights, NWA 75 could culminate with Paige sitting on top of the women’s division as the world champion.
