While there are occasional big matches, she feels that there is a lack of opportunities for certain matchups. Mercedes mentioned several names, including Jade Cargill, Anna Jay, Skye Blue, Britt Baker, and Kris Statlander, who she hasn’t had the chance to face in singles competition within the AEW division. In contrast, ROH offers more flexibility for these dream matches to take place.
Mercedes emphasized her point by highlighting the ability to bring in talents from outside the roster for one-off dream showdowns in ROH. This freedom to have matchups with wrestlers from the independents or overseas is what makes ROH feel like home to Mercedes. She believes that this is where the magic and creativity happen, and where fans can expect to witness those highly anticipated dream matches. Mercedes clarified that it’s not about one promotion being better than the other, but rather her personal preference for ROH due to its history as her home and its commitment to building a strong division.
In ROH, Mercedes can expect to have matches that allow her 10-12 minutes of in-ring action, compared to the 5-6 minutes typically allotted in AEW matches. The constraints of television time in AEW limit the length of matches, whereas ROH’s streaming format provides more flexibility. This factor further reinforces Mercedes’ decision to choose ROH as her preferred promotion.
