Carmelo Hayes Competing in US Title Tournament at NXT

Filed under:

When Logan Paul announced an eight-man tournament to find the next top contender to his United States championship, he revealed a list of competitors that included a mystery man from NXT. We would later learn said mystery man will be facing off against Grayson Waller in round one on this coming week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

Now we know who that NXT wrestler is, per the following announcement from Shawn Michaels:

“When it was announced an NXT Superstar would be competing in the United States Title Tournament on SmackDown.there was a line outside my office door. The man at the head of that line, and the man who will be representing NXT, is Carmelo Hayes.”

Hayes is fresh off a victory over Lexis King at the Deadline premium live event just last night in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He ended the evening trailing behind his old pal Trick Williams, who had earned a shot at Ilja Dragunov and the NXT championship. The story seems to be building to Hayes turning on Trick Willy but we can worry about that another time.

For now, he’ll be making his way to the main roster for a big match on SmackDown this week. We’ll have to wait and see if it turns into something more, but he’s most certainly ready for just that.
