According to the latest reports from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Roman Reigns’ next challenger for the Universal Title could be none other than the returning legend Randy Orton. Reigns has held the title since August 30, 2020, and with such a long reign, there are few challengers left for him to face. However, Orton’s recent return to SmackDown has sparked speculation that he could be the next in line to challenge Reigns for the gold.
This news comes after Orton officially signed with SmackDown on this week’s show, with the main incentive being a shot at Reigns and the Bloodline. Orton has a history with the Bloodline, as they put him on the shelf for a year and a half. This potential matchup between Orton and Reigns has been met with excitement from fans, as both superstars have proven themselves to be top performers in the industry.
Opinion: If the match between Orton and Reigns does indeed happen at the Royal Rumble, it would make a lot of sense. LA Knight, who has been feuding with the Bloodline, recently had his title shot and it wouldn’t make sense for him to lose again so soon. On the other hand, Orton is a legend in the business and losing to Reigns wouldn’t hurt his status in any way.
