Eric Bischoff believes Goldberg vs. Chris Jericho in WCW would have been a disaster

On a recent episode of his 83 Weeks Podcast, Eric Bischoff shared his thoughts on the potential feud between Goldberg and Chris Jericho in WCW. According to Bischoff, he believes that the feud would have been a “train wreck” due to Goldberg’s inexperience and insecurity in his abilities.

Bischoff stated, “I like Bill. He was a pain in the ass to work with back then. And part of that is not because he’s a dick, not because he’s just got a bad personality, not because he’s selfish but because he didn’t have the tools to get into the ring and have a match with Chris Jericho. He was insecure in his own abilities.”

He further elaborated on Goldberg’s limitations, saying, “Bill was only capable of looking like Bill Goldberg within a limited framework of offense, right? He just didn’t have it. And I think that’s what bothered him more than anything.”

Bischoff also acknowledged that Jericho’s talent and experience would have posed a challenge for Goldberg, stating, “He knew if he got in there with Chris, he’d have to really step up his game. And Bill was still relatively new to the business at that point in time. He didn’t have all the experience that Chris had.”

Despite his reservations about the potential feud, Bischoff recognized the missed opportunity for a compelling storyline. He mentioned, “It’s unfortunate because had Bill had a couple more years of experience under his belt and would have been able to go out there and have some great matches with Chris, it could have been a phenomenal story to tell. A little bit of David and Goliath.”

However, Bischoff also acknowledged that Jericho’s decision to leave WCW for WWE was justified, as he felt there was no room for him to grow in the company at that time.

Overall, Bischoff’s comments shed light on the challenges that Goldberg and Jericho would have faced if their feud had come to fruition in WCW. While it’s interesting to speculate on what could have been, it’s clear that both wrestlers went on to have successful careers in their own right.
