WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett recently shared his thoughts on the talented wrestler Eli Drake, also known as LA Knight, during an episode of his podcast, My World with Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett discussed what he noticed in Drake back in 2017 when they were both in Impact Wrestling.
According to Jarrett, he recognized Drake’s charisma and ability to cut captivating promos. He was impressed by Drake’s talent and wondered why he hadn’t made his way to WWE at that time.
“I can remember asking 2 or 3 people. How come he’s not at WWE? Like what happened, you know. And here’s why. When you kind of go from Alberto and that vision. This is just kind of maybe it’s how I was born and raised or the vision or looking through things is you have to have to look at your roster and say, all right, who can perform the very best with as many people as possible when you’re doing 12 shows in six days. You better have a workhorse that has personality. And so I don’t think it’s any magical formula who can go out and tear the house down with as many different opponents as possible that can talk.”
It’s clear that Jarrett believed Drake possessed the qualities necessary to be successful in the wrestling industry. He emphasized the importance of having a performer who can not only deliver in the ring but also connect with the audience through their mic skills and personality.
Drake’s ability to captivate the crowd with his promos and his in-ring skills eventually caught the attention of WWE, as he signed with the company in 2020. Since then, he has made a name for himself on the NXT brand, showcasing his talent and proving Jarrett’s initial assessment correct.
