Sonny Kiss Regrets Not Unleashing Full Aggression During AEW Tenure

Sonny Kiss, the former AEW star, recently opened up about her time in the company and expressed her regrets about not showing more aggression in her matches. In a candid interview on Busted Open Radio, Kiss admitted that she wishes she could take back the early perception of her as just a gimmick.

During the interview, Kiss mentioned that her first introduction to AEW involved a spot that focused on her booty. She acknowledged that while she would still do it, she regrets making that her initial showcase to the world. Kiss explained, “If I knew that that was gonna be the response, I probably wouldn’t have done that as my first introduction to AEW. Because that was the first spot I did. That was with 10,000 people and everybody watching at home saw. So I probably wouldn’t have made that my first spot that the world has seen of Sonny Kiss. That’s the one thing I’ll take back from that.”

Furthermore, Kiss revealed that she believes she was supposed to have more offense in her matches with Brian Cage, but due to various factors, her moments were cut. She acknowledged that as a performer, it can be disappointing when your planned spots don’t make it to air. Kiss stated, “I think somehow things are going all over the place, and your stuff gets cut. It happens. I wouldn’t have had that as my first spot. When you’re a person like me, you can’t do certain things like that because then the world just sees you as that.”

Highlighting her desire to showcase her true wrestling abilities, Kiss emphasized that she is much more than a gimmick. She expressed frustration with the perception that she is solely a gimmick and stated, “Even to this day, people say, ‘Oh, you’re just a gimmick.’ No. You have not been watching my progression if you think that I’m just a gimmick. I am so much more than that. I’m very athletic, I’m very talented, I’m very unique. I have so much more to offer than just having a great ass. That was up to me too, that was on me. I needed to show that more. I needed to show that I was more of a spicy, aggressive wrestler.”

In addition to her reflections on her time in AEW, Kiss also discussed how she would often beg to be included in tapings when she was on the roster but not being utilized. This further highlights her passion for wrestling and her desire to showcase her skills.
