The top two tag teams in Impact Wrestling will do battle at Victory Road
Impact Wrestling has announced that Trey Miguel and Zachary Wentz of The Rascalz will defend their Impact World Tag Team Titles against Chris Sabin and Impact World Champion Alex Shelley later this month at Victory Road. The highly-anticipated match will take place on Friday, September 8 at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, New York.
The rivalry between The Rascalz and The Guns has been building up over the past few weeks. During this week’s post-Emergence Impact episode, The Rascalz interrupted The Guns while they were dealing with other issues. This led to a frustrated Chris Sabin challenging Zachary Wentz to a singles match, which was made official. The match saw interference from both teams, with Trey Miguel attempting to interfere but being warned by Alex Shelley not to. Ultimately, The Guns emerged victorious, with Sabin finishing off Wentz with a devastating Cradle Shock.
The upcoming match at Victory Road is not the only significant event for these tag teams. It was recently announced that Alex Shelley will defend his Impact World Title against Trey Miguel on the 1,000th episode of Impact. This special episode will be taped on Saturday, September 9, at the same venue as Victory Road, and will air on Thursday, September 14, as the post-Victory Road show.
The Rascalz secured their first reign as Impact World Tag Team Champions by defeating Subculture at the Emergence event last Friday night. They will now face the challenge of The Guns, who are looking to become four-time Impact World Tag Team Champions. A victory for The Guns at Victory Road would tie them with LAX for the second-most reigns in the history of the Impact tag team division, just behind The Wolves and Beer Money, who have each held the titles five times.
The Motor City Machine Guns, consisting of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, have a history with The Rascalz. They have faced off in various promotions, including Impact, The Wrestling Revolver, and Prestige Wrestling. However, this will be the first time that The Rascalz and The Guns meet in Impact Wrestling. In their previous encounters, The Guns have emerged victorious, defeating Miguel and Wentz at The Wrestling Revolver’s Sunday FunBey event on August 21, 2022, and again at Prestige Wrestling’s Black Sunshine event on June 18 of this year.
The 2023 Impact Victory Road pay-per-view promises to be an action-packed event. In addition to the highly-anticipated tag team title match, the card includes a Knockouts World Title match between Alisha Edwards and Trinity, an X-Division Title match between Kushida and Lio Rush, and a Career vs. Title match between Tommy Dreamer and Impact Digital Media Champion Kenny King.
