CM Punk Not Personally Contacted Regarding AEW Suspension
Less than two days after AEW’s monumental event, AEW: All In London, attention has shifted from the captivating in-ring performances to a backstage incident. Just before the historic pay-per-view began, CM Punk and Jack Perry found themselves in a backstage altercation.
The dispute arose from an unscripted remark that Perry made to Punk during the Zero Hour pre-show. The tension escalated further post-match when the two confronted each other in the Gorilla position area. This confrontation turned physical, with shoving and ultimately Punk applying a chokehold on Perry, necessitating their separation.
In the wake of these events, AEW announced suspensions for both Punk and Perry. An internal investigation into the matter is ongoing. Interestingly, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful tweeted that “CM Punk has not been informed of a suspension by AEW.” Haus of Wrestling later revealed that although AEW has not communicated the suspension directly to Punk, he was informed of it by his lawyer before the news surfaced.
Notably, there has been no communication between Punk and AEW President Tony Khan since AEW: All In London. As noted, no AEW Representatives met CM Punk at Heathrow Airport prior the event. AEW’s upcoming major event, All Out, is scheduled for this weekend at The United Center in Chicago, the very venue where Punk’s return to professional wrestling took place when he joined AEW. Punk’s participation in the upcoming show, as well as other AEW programs like Dynamite and Collision, remains uncertain.
CM Punk’s involvement in various backstage incidents has been a point of discussion in recent times. His altercation with The Elite, his candid remarks about fellow wrestlers during the All Out 2023 post-event press conference, and his apparent influence over backstage access during Collision shows have all contributed to a sense of unrest within the company.
