The Young Bucks Compare Rivalry With FTR to Legendary Celtics vs. Lakers Showdown

The Young Bucks, Matt and Nick Jackson, are gearing up for their highly anticipated tag team title match against FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) at AEW All In. The brothers recently sat down with Sports Illustrated to discuss the history between the two teams and the significance of this match.

In their conversation with Sports Illustrated, Matt Jackson reflects on the previous encounters between the Young Bucks and FTR, with the record currently tied at 1-1. He acknowledges the high stakes of this rubber match, stating, “We’re tied at one win a piece, we’ve had two matches prior that are critically acclaimed, and now to complete the trilogy, we’re performing in front of the largest paid audience in history for a wrestling show.”

For Matt, this match represents a personal challenge and an opportunity to perform on such a grand stage. He expresses his excitement, saying, “It might be the culmination of everything we’ve ever worked for, and how I complete every future story I tell to my future grandkids about where my career climaxed.”

Nick Jackson opens up about the first Young Bucks and FTR match at Full Gear 2020, revealing that he had contracted COVID-19 a month prior and was still dealing with breathing issues. He shares, “Not many people know this, but I had a really bad case of Covid a month or two before that first match, and I had trouble breathing for a long time. Cardio-wise, it took me a while to get healthy, so that match was probably the hardest match I ever had to get through.” Nick adds that having more time for this match will allow them to tell the best story possible.

Comparing the Young Bucks and FTR rivalry to the legendary Celtics and Lakers rivalry in the NBA, Matt Jackson emphasizes the mutual respect between the teams despite their intense competition. He states, “Any competitor who sees another competitor as a threat, aren’t inviting them over for a cup of coffee. At least not now, while we’re in the middle of it. Maybe one day when we’re all old men, we’ll sit down, reminisce and realize how much we all actually have in common.”

Nick Jackson shares their vision for the tag team division in AEW, saying, “This is exactly what we envisioned for the tag team division in AEW. Having generational talent and having them be able to hold the division at the highest standard and of course we’re competitive and we see that and it drives us to be better.”
