Red Velvet recently reflected on her experience in a mixed tag team match alongside Cody Rhodes against Jade Cargill and Shaquille O’Neal on a March 2021 episode of AEW Dynamite. During an appearance on The Grue Rume Show, Velvet shared a heartwarming moment she had with Rhodes before the match.
Velvet revealed that she was feeling incredibly nervous before the match, especially with the added pressure of Shaq’s presence. However, Rhodes took the time to reassure her and remind her that the match was also about her. Velvet recalled, “I shook Cody’s hand and he whispered in my ear and he said, ‘Don’t let anyone tell you that this match isn’t about you as well.'”
This gesture meant a lot to Velvet, as she admitted that she could have easily been overshadowed by the star power of Shaq. Rhodes wanted to ensure that she felt valued and recognized for her role in the match. Velvet expressed her gratitude for his words, stating, “That just helped me, and that was a night I’ll never forget.”
Despite the hectic nature of the day, Velvet only had one regret – not taking a tag team picture with Rhodes before the match. She explained, “I wish before the match, there wasn’t so much going on because I would have loved to just really have a picture to remember that moment.” Velvet humorously mentioned that Rhodes often jokes about the missed opportunity and suggests they could have had a twin pack action figure together.
