Eric Bischoff Fires Back at Critics, Defends AEW’s Strategy for Withholding All In Match Announcements

Eric Bischoff has come to the defense of All Elite Wrestling (AEW) over criticism regarding their decision to not announce matches well in advance of their upcoming event, All In. Bischoff shared his thoughts on the matter during a recent episode of his Strictly Business podcast.

AEW, which has garnered a lot of attention in the wrestling world since its inception, has chosen a different approach when it comes to promoting their matches for All In. While traditional wrestling promotions often announce matches well ahead of time to build anticipation and hype, AEW has taken a different route.

In his podcast, Bischoff acknowledged that the audience is accustomed to seeing more build-up for matches. However, he urged fans to withhold judgment until they see how the event unfolds. “Wait and see how this event comes off before you decide it was done improperly,” Bischoff said.

He emphasized that AEW has already achieved a remarkable feat by selling a significant number of tickets for the event, stating, “It’s the brand that sold those tickets–Eighty thousand of them, by the way, or more. And I think that is a fantastic accomplishment.”

Bischoff also highlighted that the appeal of All In lies in its status as a new and alternative wrestling experience. People are eager to witness this fresh approach firsthand, which is why they are buying tickets. “People are buying a ticket to that event because it’s brand new. It’s an alternative. And they want to see for themselves what it is,” Bischoff explained.

He further emphasized that television and storytelling are not the driving forces behind the event’s success. Instead, it is the curiosity and desire to be part of something big that motivates fans to attend. “Not because of any story or angle. Yes. In aggregate, talent that’s on the important card. But they’re buying the ticket primarily because they want to be a part of something big,” Bischoff stated.

While Bischoff acknowledged that AEW’s storytelling may not align with his personal preferences regarding structure and discipline, he believes that the event has the potential to be a game-changer for the promotion. “They have an opportunity to take a giant leap forward. Yeah. Amazingly, they also have a chance to shit the bed with 80,000 people,” he remarked.

AEW’s decision to not announce matches well in advance has sparked debate and criticism within the wrestling community. However, Bischoff’s perspective offers a different take on the matter. Instead of focusing solely on the traditional approach, he encourages fans and critics alike to embrace the unique nature of AEW and its upcoming event.

It remains to be seen how All In will unfold and whether AEW’s decision will pay off. But one thing is for sure: the event has already generated significant buzz and anticipation within the wrestling world.
