ECW Founder Tod Gordon Claims Paul Heyman Fabricated WCW Mole Story
ECW founder Tod Gordon recently sat down for an interview with Steve Fall of WrestlingNews.co to promote his book “Tod Is God.” During the interview, Gordon discussed a variety of topics, including Paul Heyman’s fabricated WCW mole story in ECW.
Gordon explained that during the mid-90s, the locker room atmosphere in ECW had become divided and tense. Different factions and individuals with their own agendas were causing turmoil within the company. Wrestlers were approaching Gordon, expressing their concerns about the uncertainty of their paychecks and their futures in the business.
Feeling the pressure and the need to address the issues, Gordon planned to make a phone call to help secure job opportunities for the wrestlers who were unhappy. However, Heyman presented him with an alternative solution.
“Paul said, ‘Wait a minute. I’ve got a brilliant idea. You’re leaving anyway, right? How about there’s a mole in the company, and I can get the locker room back together again, all of us, against whomever, and now we tighten the ranks again,'” Gordon recalled.
Gordon agreed to Heyman’s suggestion because he wanted ECW to succeed and maintain its close-knit community. He also emphasized that his decision was not solely driven by financial gain but also by his strong relationships with his fellow wrestlers.
While Heyman’s plan may have temporarily united the locker room, it was based on a fabricated story about a WCW mole. According to Gordon, Heyman promised him that he would return to ECW after a year as the greatest heel in the history of professional wrestling.
This revelation raises questions about the lengths Heyman was willing to go to manipulate and control the narrative in ECW. It also sheds light on the challenges and tensions faced by the promotion as it competed against larger wrestling companies like WWE and WCW.
