Freddie Prinze Jr. Reveals Shocking Reason Behind His Disappointment with WWE SummerSlam’s Tribal Combat Match

Freddie Prinze Jr., the former WWE creative writer, recently expressed his disappointment with the Tribal Combat match between Roman Reigns and Jey Uso at the 2023 SummerSlam PLE. During his appearance on the podcast Wrestling With Freddy, Prinze Jr. shared his frustrations about the match and questioned its authenticity.

“Tribal Combat was a lie. [A] farce, a complete fallacy, and I’m pissed off about it. What the hell is a Tribal Combat? I thought these guys were going to come out, Wakanda style, with like a kendo stick, I don’t know if Samoans have shields, but if they do, Samoan shields, and they whip each other’s ass until the kendo sticks broke, and then bash each other with a shield until that breaks. And then when there’s nothing left, they just fight.”

Prinze Jr. expressed his disappointment with the lack of Samoan culture in the match, stating, “No one’s allowed to interfere, [yet] two people interfere. I didn’t feel a lot of Samoan culture in the match, which was just kind of weird to me. And I’m not trying to say it in a woke way, I’m just … it was basically a [No DQ] match.”

While Prinze Jr.’s comments may have stirred up some controversy, it’s important to note that his opinion is just one perspective among many. Wrestling fans have diverse opinions and interpretations of matches, and it’s not uncommon for there to be differing views on the same event.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Tribal Combat match received positive feedback from many other wrestling enthusiasts. The intense and emotional storyline between Reigns and Uso captivated fans, and the match itself showcased their incredible in-ring abilities and storytelling skills.

As with any form of entertainment, professional wrestling is subjective, and what may resonate with one person may not necessarily resonate with another. The Tribal Combat match was a unique concept that aimed to highlight the Samoan heritage of Reigns and Uso, and while it may not have met Prinze Jr.’s expectations, it still managed to captivate and entertain a significant portion of the audience.

Ultimately, it’s essential to respect and acknowledge the diverse perspectives within the wrestling community. While Prinze Jr.’s opinion carries weight due to his previous experience as a WWE creative writer, it’s crucial to remember that individual opinions can vary greatly.
