Tony Schiavone Ecstatic About Recent Parking Lot Brawl Play-By-Play Opportunity

Tony Schiavone was recently given the opportunity to do play-by-play commentary for a parking lot brawl match in AEW, and he couldn’t be happier about it. Schiavone, a longtime veteran in the wrestling industry, joined Paul Wight in calling the action for the matchup between the Blackpool Combat Club and the Best Friends on the August 4th edition of Rampage.

In a recent episode of his podcast, “What Happened When,” Schiavone expressed his excitement about the opportunity to do play-by-play again. He revealed that he had spoken with AEW President Tony Khan about wanting to give it a shot, and Khan granted him the chance.

“I was really thrilled that I was able to call a match and be able to call the parking lot match because I’d talked to Tony about me doing some play-by-play again,” Schiavone said. “I said I’d like to give it a shot, and then he let me do that. He and I worked together on it.”

Schiavone also admitted that, like most people in broadcasting, he is very critical of his own work. However, he was happy that his voice held out throughout the match. “The only thing I was really happy about my work was, like most people in broadcasting, I’m very critical of my own work. I just was glad my voice held out. I was thrilled about that. My voice made it the entire way. I didn’t think it would. But I was happy about that,” Schiavone shared.

The parking lot brawl match was not the only challenge for Schiavone during that week. He had a hectic travel schedule, starting with Dynamite in Tampa on Wednesday, followed by the parking lot match in Jacksonville on Thursday. After that, he flew to Detroit for an autograph signing and then traveled to Atlanta for the Collision event.

Despite the busy week, Schiavone was grateful for the opportunity to do play-by-play commentary and enjoyed the experience. He also took the time on his podcast to discuss legendary wrestling personality Vince Russo and why he would never criticize Russo’s infamous work over the years.
