Kevin Owens uncertain about future plans post WWE contract expiration

In late 2021, it was reported that Kevin Owens had re-signed with WWE on a three-year contract. Owens himself confirmed this in a recent interview with the Toronto Sun, where he discussed his future in the wrestling industry.

When asked about what he hopes to accomplish beyond his current contract, Owens admitted that he is uncertain about his future. He stated, “I really don’t know [what’s left for me to accomplish in WWE]. I used to say I don’t see myself not being in the ring for another five to 10 years. And if I said it right now, I’d be lying because over the last few months, I have to admit, I don’t know if that’s true anymore.”

Owens expressed his desire to remain involved in wrestling and in WWE but acknowledged that he is unsure of where exactly he fits in. He said, “I know I want to be involved in wrestling. I know I want to be involved in the WWE and I know I have a place here. I just don’t know where it is exactly. Maybe it’s still in the ring, maybe it’s not. I don’t know.”

Currently holding the WWE Tag Team Championship, Owens emphasized that his focus for the next year and a half is to enjoy his time in the industry and create memorable moments for the fans. He stated, “There’s not really a worry about winning a title or main-eventing WrestleMania or any of that stuff anymore, which are the dreams that everybody has because I’ve been so blessed and I’ve gotten to do all of that. So I just want to have fun and I want to give people fun times to remember me by.”

While Owens will be approaching 41 when his current contract expires, it is unclear whether he plans to retire or continue wrestling. Financially secure and with the option to explore coaching or producing, Owens may choose to transition into a different role within the industry. However, it is not uncommon for wrestlers to continue performing at a high level well into their 50s and beyond.

As fans, we will have to wait and see what decision Owens ultimately makes when his contract expires. In the meantime, let’s enjoy the next 18 months of his career and support him in whatever path he chooses to take.
