With Summerslam just eight days away, the anticipation is building for what promises to be a huge event. The presence of Roman Reigns alone is enough to generate excitement, as he is set to face Jey Uso in Tribal Combat. But there is more to look forward to, including the crowning of a new #1 contender for the US Title. Let’s dive into the action from this week’s SmackDown.
The show kicks off with Jey Uso, but he is quickly interrupted by Roman Reigns and the Bloodline. Reigns asserts his dominance, reminding Jey that he is the one who holds the power. Jey, however, stands up to Reigns, claiming that he has already beaten him before and will do it again at Summerslam. The tension between the two is palpable, and it sets the stage for an epic showdown.
In the quest for a US Title shot, Rey Mysterio faced off against Santos Escobar. The match was hard-fought, but unfortunately, Rey suffered an injury during the bout, forcing the referee to stop the match. Escobar emerged victorious and secured his spot as the #1 contender for the US Title.
After the match, Escobar showed respect to Rey Mysterio and turned his attention to Austin Theory, the current US Champion. Escobar stared down Theory, knowing that their upcoming title match will be a defining moment in his career.
Bianca Belair, determined to win back her title, found herself interrupted by Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville. Belair, never one to back down, offered to take on both of them in a match. Charlotte Flair then made her presence known, calling Deville and Green bullies and setting up a tag team match for later in the night.
LA Knight, always one for theatrics, interrupted Hit Row’s promo. He made some snide remarks about B Fab and challenged Ashante Thee Adonis to a match. Knight emerged victorious, further establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with.
Jey Uso was given another challenge by Adam Pearce, as he was scheduled to face Grayson Waller. Jey accepted the match without hesitation, ready to prove himself once again.
Bobby Lashley, accompanied by the Street Profits, showcased his generosity by gifting Angelo Dawkins with some stylish suits. Dawkins was appreciative of the gesture, and it seemed that Lashley was taking the team under his wing.
In a non-title match, Bianca Belair and Charlotte teamed up to take on Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green. Belair and Green started things off, with Belair quickly asserting her dominance. Charlotte joined the fray, and together, they secured the victory with a big boot to Green.
The tensions between Belair and Charlotte were evident, hinting at a potential clash between the two in the future.
Bayley, accompanied by Iyo Sky, received a note from Shotzi, causing them to rush out of the arena. Asuka, confident in her abilities, promised to retain her title at Summerslam.
