Ospreay Claims Victory Over Okada in G1 Climax 33

The G1 Climax 33 tournament continued with its fifth set of matches on July 27 at Ota Gymnasium. The main event of the evening featured a thrilling showdown between Will Ospreay and Kazuchika Okada, resulting in a groundbreaking victory for Ospreay.

Throughout their encounter, Ospreay and Okada showcased their incredible skills and determination. The match began with a measured start, but quickly escalated as Ospreay unleashed a series of impressive moves, including a boot and a plancha. However, Okada retaliated with a flapjack and a devastating DDT on the floor, targeting Ospreay’s neck.

Despite the punishment, Ospreay fought back with a handspring, but Okada continued his assault. The two competitors engaged in a fierce exchange of strikes, with Okada looking for a Rainmaker. However, Ospreay countered with a powerbomb, refusing to be defeated. The momentum shifted when Ospreay executed an OsCutter on the ring frame, followed by another inside the ring for a near fall. Although Ospreay attempted his signature move, the Ospreay Leap of Faith, it was successfully countered by Okada.

As the match progressed, both wrestlers showcased their resilience and determination to secure the victory. Ospreay managed to hit a Spanish Fly and the Hidden Blade, but Okada refused to stay down. Okada unleashed a short dropkick and a Landslide, preparing to finish the match with his renowned Rainmaker. However, Ospreay surprised everyone with a ripcord Hidden Blade and then delivered the Stormbreaker to claim a stunning victory over Okada.

In another intense match of the night, El Phantasmo faced off against KENTA. The encounter was marked by a refusal to start the match, leading to a brawl outside the ring. El Phantasmo was dropped with a DDT in the bleachers, resulting in a bloody encounter. Despite the brutal attacks, El Phantasmo fought back, but KENTA utilized a kendo stick to inflict further damage. The match officially began with a suspect call from the referee, and in a surprising turn of events, El Phantasmo countered KENTA’s Go2Sleep attempt with an inside cradle for a quick victory in just 19 seconds.

Tanga Loa emerged victorious against Great-O-Khan, eliminating the United Empire member from the tournament. Despite O-Khan’s vicious assault on Loa’s knee, Loa fought back with a combination of strikes. O-Khan utilized a chair to his advantage, but Loa managed to catch him off guard with Apesh*t for the win.

The first block match of the night featured YOSHI-HASHI against Taichi. The match was characterized by hard strikes and counterpunching, with YOSHI-HASHI initially gaining the upper hand. However, Taichi turned the tide with a short Black Mephisto, followed by a superkick and the full Black Mephisto for the victory.

The action in B Block continues on August 1 in Takamatsu. The main event will see Kazuchika Okada facing off against KENTA, while Will Ospreay takes on Tanga Loa. Additionally, Taichi will go head-to-head with El Phantasmo, and YOSHI-HASHI will battle Great-O-Khan.
